Planimate System Requirements

Operating System

Planimate is a Microsoft Windows-based application that runs on Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 10. Running over Terminal Services is supported. It runs well in virtual computers. It also runs acceptably under WINE on Linux environments.

Note: Planimate 6 is also known to run on Windows XP and Windows Vista, however we are unable to provide support for these systems.

Install Size

A Planimate developer installation requires about 50MB, most of this is for the help files and demo models. The core executable (which becomes part of any stand alone applications built using Planimate) is less than 4MB.

Memory

Memory usage depends on the complexity of the model. The standard memory recommended for the operating system is ample for small to medium models. Large network models (with hundreds of nodes on a map, supporting logic, logging and graphing tables) typically run well on systems with 2GB of RAM.

Processor

A processor with Pentium 4 performance or later is recommended. Multiple cores are useful for running several simulations simultaneously.

64 Bit Support

Planimate is available in both 32 and 64 bit versions. The 64 bit version (running on a 64 bit operating system) supports enormous model sizes with networks containing nodes numbering in the tens of thousands.

Models are interchangeable between 32 and 64 bit versions (subject to the 2GB memory constraint of the 32 bit version).

Note that the 32 bit version of Planimate will run well on a system with a 64 bit operating system.

Video

Any contemporary graphics video card with 32 bit colour will work well with Planimate. It does not require 3D capabilities. A  desktop size of at least 1280×1024 is recommended.

Installation Impact

Planimate is relatively stand alone and does not install DLLs for itself or require frameworks like Microsoft .NET. It can run in environments where the user does not have administrative access. It does not use the registry when running end user applications.

Note that an application and/or its data might end up being duplicated many times if a range of planning options are being prepared and assessed by a planner. This needs to be considered when considering resource requirements (particularly memory) for a Planimate based planning application.
